Book Review: Don't Be Sad

Book Review: Don't Be Sad This book contains verses from the Qur'an, sayings from the Prophet Muhammad (SAAWS) and his companions as well as from the wise. It also contains sayings of the Western and Eastern thinkers and philosophers, sayings that coincide with the truth. It's an inspirational book for everyone to read, not just those of the Muslim faith.

As the author puts it, it's not a cover-to-cover reading. This book definitely has helped me go through rough times. This book will be a guide on how to control your emotions as it did to me, especially when dealing with a loss or test from Him.

My father passed away due to advanced stomach cancer. He was diagnosed with this cancer when I was pregnant with my second child. My family kept the information from me, as they feared the news might distraught and affect my pregnancy.

My husband bought me this book when he realized my attitude changed drastically after my loss. At that point in time I was drowned in sadness. I felt that way may be because I haven't seen my father for more than a year and I was close to him (as I was away in another country). Besides, I had just delivered my second baby via emergency caesarean. I felt weak, sad, lost, alone, and I felt nobody in this world understood what I faced.

I was heartbroken because I thought he died a few days too early. We were a few days too late! I only got to see his grave. I mourned for days and whenever I thought of the situation I've been through, I cried, cried and cried. I know, I know - this is Qada' and Qadar but I can't accept it at first.

I changed gradually after reading this book. I became stronger in controlling my emotions. I put an end to all the crying, grieving, moaning, and having negative thoughts. Whenever feeling down, I will be able to find a chapter in this book to relate to that situation, and read it thoroughly. This book is full of practical advice on how to overcome despair and replace it with a sensible and ultimately satisfying Islamic outlook on life. It really changed me, as a person, more importantly as a Muslimah.

My du'aa to readers of this book, may all your sadness be gone, please learn to repent, and get closer to Him. Only by remembering Him, you'll feel peace at heart. Insha'Allah.
