Deodorants have no effect on the perspiration per se, they simply hide the smell with fragrance. They do not prevent the skin from perspiring. In other words, deodorants will not keep you dry. Instead, they will make you (and others around you) feel good with their fragrance and hide your body odor.
In order to keep your body from sweating excessively you have to use an antiperspirants. The antiperspirant works by blocking the sweat ducts and thus does not allow the sweat to reach the skin surface. A common and effective ingredient in antiperspirants has been aluminum chloride. In addition, many new aluminum compounds are now being used as active ingredients in antiperspirants, with Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Glycine being one of the newest compounds.
When shopping for an antiperspirant look for one that is water soluble, free of any fragrance, and one that doesn't contain ingredients that are potentially allergy forming. Since antiperspirants are usually applied at moist and warm areas such as the underarm, with thin epidermis, the ideal antiperspirant should be non irritating for the users. It should also not leave any deposit after drying as it otherwise would stain your blouse.
In case you have an allergy to fragrances or synthetic dyes please use antiperspirants with care. If you have sensitive skin or have tendency for eczema (which is a sort of allergy) please consult your doctor before using antiperspirants. It is also recommended that diabetics use these products only after consulting their doctor.
